Hans Greve

The German double bassist Hans Greve enjoys exploring the versatility of his instrument, expressing his musicality in symphony and opera orchestras, as well as in chamber and contemporary music. He increasingly dedicates time to his interests in the arts and sciences, engaging in improvisation and developing interdisciplinary projects.

Highlights of the 2024/25 season include Hans's return to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, numerous performances at the State Opera Stuttgart, and his role as co-curator of the Festivalcampus Ensemble at the Heidelberger Frühling Festival, as well as for the 2025 season of the Swiss ensemble-collective arte frizzante.

Hans is currently completing his Master's degree with Prof. Božo Paradžik in Freiburg, Germany, after studying with him for many years and spending a year at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris under Prof. Nicolas Crosse. Alongside his musical studies, he has studied philosophy and psychology at the University of Freiburg and Sorbonne Université in Paris since 2021.

From a young age, Hans has performed with numerous ensembles and at festivals throughout Western Europe, including Musique aux quatre horizons (France), the o/modernt Chamber Orchestra (Sweden/UK), and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany). He has also appeared in concert in Canada, Ukraine, and India.

Since 2017, Hans has been supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, which has entrusted him with an anonymous eighteenth-century double bass on loan.

Outside music, Hans enjoys mountaineering, dancing, and running.
