Mon-Puo Lee

After winning top prizes at the Isang Yun and George Enescu International Cello Competitions, Spanish-Taiwanese cellist Mon-Puo has established himself as an artist of exceptional creativity, virtuosity, and musical depth.

As a soloist, Mon-Puo has performed with internationally renowned orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, Enescu Festival Orchestra, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Chamber Orchestra of Andrés Segovia, Tongyeong Festival Orchestra, Extremadura Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Taiwan, and Jenaer Symphoniker. He has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Michael Sanderling, Alexandre Bloch, David Geringas, and Álvaro Albiach.

Mon-Puo is a prizewinner at numerous prestigious international competitions, including the Isang Yun Competition (South Korea), George Enescu Competition (Romania), Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria), Carl Davydov International Cello Competition (Latvia), Khachaturian International Competition (Armenia), and Schoenfeld International String Competition (China). In recognition of his artistic achievements and contributions to classical music, he has been honored with the title of "Extraordinary Musician" in Madrid and named "Ambassador of Culture" in Taiwan.

He has appeared at many of the world's leading concert halls and festivals, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin, Stadtcasino Basel, Kronberg Festival, Wigmore Hall, National Auditorium of Music (Madrid), Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and Tongyeong Concert Hall in South Korea.

Equally accomplished as a chamber musician, Mon-Puo has performed with artists including Robert Levin, Clara-Jumi Kang, Vilde Frang, and Alexander Gadjiev, and was a member of the Kelemen Quartet.

Born in Madrid to a Taiwanese family of artists, Mon-Puo studied with Natalia Shakhovskaya in Madrid and Professor Jens-Peter Maintz in Germany. Committed to lifelong artistic development, he is recently completed postgraduate studies with violinist Rainer Schmidt and pianist Claudio Martinez-Mehner in Basel.
