Sophie Williams

Scottish-Korean violinist Sophie Williams enjoys a vivid, multifaceted career, performing in festivals and ensembles throughout Europe.

She has appeared at festivals including Yellow Barn, Heidelberger Frühling, Pau Casals, Mendelssohn on Mull, Musiq3, Aix-en-Provence, Schiermonnikoog, West Cork, and IMS Prussia Cove and has collaborated with artists such as Anthony Marwood, Sol Gabetta, Dénes Várjon, and members of the Doric String Quartet. In 2026 she joined the Quatuor Ardeo and is also a member of the Irish Lir Quartet, Ensemble Cappella Gabetta, and has worked closely with composers such as Jörg Widmann, Julian Anderson, and Georg Nussbaumer.

Former Principal Second Violin of the European Union Youth Orchestra, she later joined the Budapest Festival Orchestra as an apprentice with Iván Fischer. She frequently tours in leading venues including Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Müpa Budapest, and the KKL Luzern. Equally at home on historical setups, she performs with ensembles such as the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Ensemble Resonanz, and the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras. Alongside performing on stage, she is also active as a photographer, capturing artistic portraits of musicians and has produced images for CD releases on labels including Mirae and Claves.
